Hondarribia
Hondarribia (Fuenterrabía) is a fortified fishing town facing Hendaye across the Bidasoa river — Spain looking at France, with Txakoli vines in the hills behind. The old town is cobbled and enclosed; the marina and beach sit below. It is the smallest of the four destinations, which is the advantage: a wedding can take over the feeling of the place without competing with a resort. Guests can sleep in the parador, eat in the marina, and walk everywhere.
Venue types
The parador and the old town
The castle-parador and a few historic houses inside the walls. Ceremonies with stone, flags, and a walkable guest list. Capacity is modest.
Marina and bay restaurants
Modern rooms on the water, good for a long lunch that turns into an evening. Easy for guests staying in Hendaye or Irun as well.
Farmhouses and vineyards in the Jaizkibel hills
Rural caseríos and small wine houses a few minutes above town. The right scale for under 80 guests who want land, not a hotel corridor.
Best months
June and September, as elsewhere on this coast. Hondarribia stays pleasant later into autumn than the more exposed French beaches. August is lively around the marina but the old town still feels like a town. Spring is green and quiet — a strong choice if you do not need swimming.
Nearest airport
San Sebastián airport (EAS) is in Hondarribia itself — some venues are ten minutes from the terminal. That convenience is unique on this coast. Biarritz (BIQ) is about 30 minutes. Hendaye TGV is across the river for Paris arrivals. Bilbao (BIO) remains the long-haul option at roughly 90 minutes.
