The best wedding venues in San Sebastián are the grand hotels on the Concha, palaces and hill estates inland, and gastronomic restaurants that take a private booking. Hotel María Cristina seats 230 for a banquet in the Ibaia room, and Hotel de Londres y de Inglaterra seats 280 in its combined Britannia rooms.

San Sebastián, Donostia in Basque, is the larger of the two cities on this coast. The reception often sits in a hotel ballroom, a palace between the beaches, or a restaurant that already cooks for the number in the room. Gipuzkoa is 15 to 30 minutes inland: txakoli toward Getaria, cider country toward Astigarraga. For the choice between this side and Biarritz, start with Biarritz vs San Sebastián. Listed by type, in no order of preference. If a room is named, the official site or a dated public source confirms it hosts weddings or private events.

Grand hotels on the Concha and Ondarreta

The Concha and Ondarreta share one promenade. The two hotels below sit on that walk, or a few minutes from it, with banquet kitchens and rooms enough that guests can sleep in the same building. August is the constraint. The same houses are full of leisure guests.

Hotel María Cristina

Opened in 1912, at Paseo República Argentina 4, on the Urumea next to the Victoria Eugenia theatre. A short walk from the Concha, not on the sand. Marriott lists 139 rooms and five event spaces. The Ibaia room is the largest: 282 square metres, 230 seated for a banquet, 280 standing, on the hotel’s events table as of October 2026. Catering is in-house. This is the address for 100 to 230 guests who want a grand-hotel Saturday.

Hotel de Londres y de Inglaterra

A 19th-century house at Zubieta 2, facing La Concha. The hotel and the Basque tourism register list 167 rooms. The combined Britannia rooms cover 450 square metres and seat 280 for a banquet, or 500 standing, on the hotel’s capacity table as of October 2026. The 2026 wedding dossier names chef Mikel Ibero, in-house catering, and a separate room hire of 1,200 euros plus VAT for weddings under 80 guests. With a late supper the rooms close at 00:30.

If the photographs need the bay, stay in these two. If the wedding needs a garden or a vineyard, look inland.

Palaces and hill estates inland

Toward Igeldo, Miramar, and the Gipuzkoa hinterland the houses have land. Capacities drop and privacy rises. Some of these rooms have no bedrooms. Budget a hotel plan in town, as you would for several of the Biarritz villas.

Palacio de Miramar

Built in 1893 for Queen María Cristina, to a design by Ralph Selden Wornum, on Paseo de Miraconcha 48, between La Concha and Ondarreta. The official site lists weddings across 11 salons. The Comedor Real and the Salón de Música each seat 100. The Salón Blanco seats 60. There are no guest rooms and no kitchen. The palace recommends catering firms and does not require an exclusive contract. The gardens look at the bay and are also a public park.

Bodega Txakoli Rezabal

A family txakoli house in Zarautz, in the Getariako Txakolina denomination, about 21 kilometres west and around 21 minutes by car. The winery’s events page offers civil ceremonies and dinners among the vines, with menus from Divinus. Divinus lists capacity for 250 as of October 2026. No rooms on site. Guests sleep in Zarautz, Getaria, or back in the city.

Hotel Iturregi

An eight-room hotel in Askizu, Getaria, among txakoli vines, about 25 kilometres from the city and around 25 minutes by car. The official site offers exclusive hire for weddings, with a private chef. The guest list that fits is the one that can sleep on site or in Getaria below.

Gañeta Txakolina

A working bodega at Askizu 21, Getaria, on the same hillside. The official site lists micro-weddings in the tasting room, the porch, and a lookout among the vines, with a private chef or outside catering. Treat it as a small dinner in a vineyard, then send guests to town.

Sagarlore

A rural hotel in Astigarraga, 7 kilometres from Donostia. The official site offers the whole place: 16 rooms, gardens, car park, pool, and a tent for the banquet. Catering is from an approved list (Eventos Humada, Ona, Sharma, Ama Tolosa). The Basque tourism register lists 16 rooms and 30 beds.

Ask early whether a coach can reach the lane, and whether the dinner is inside if the weather arrives.

Gastronomic restaurants and private dining

Capacity is the constraint. The food is the point. A starred kitchen closing for 40 people can take a large share of a 60,000 to 80,000 euro envelope, as set out in what a Basque coast wedding costs.

Akelarre

Pedro Subijana’s three-Michelin-star restaurant on Monte Igueldo, at Padre Orcolaga 56, about 10 minutes by car from the centre via Ondarreta. Three stars since 2007. San Sebastián Turismo lists a dining capacity of 65 and private dining halls. The same site holds a five-star hotel of 22 rooms and suites. Catering is in-house. Best for a lunch or a rehearsal dinner of up to 65.

Martín Berasategui

The other three-star kitchen in the belt, at Loidi 4 in Lasarte-Oria, about 8 kilometres south and around 15 minutes by car. The official reservation page takes groups of six or more with a 220 euro per person prepayment as of October 2026, deducted from the bill. Cancellation terms run to groups of 11 to 20. It is a restaurant booking for a group, with the menu prepaid.

A Parte Vieja pintxos evening is the other way to feed a rehearsal night, with no venue hire, if guests will walk and stand.

Ceremonies

At least one partner must live in Spain for a Spanish civil marriage. Most visiting couples marry at home and hold a symbolic ceremony at the venue. The detail is in marrying on both sides of the border.

Bodega Rezabal and Palacio de Miramar both list ceremonies on their own sites. For a visiting couple those are still symbolic unless the civil file is already approved.

How to choose

Start with the guest count and whether people sleep on site. Under 40 can live in Akelarre, Iturregi, or Gañeta. 160 almost certainly wants María Cristina or Londres. If half the list is flying in for a long weekend, a hotel in town beats a vineyard that needs a coach at midnight.

Three questions sort the shortlist. Do guests sleep on the property (the two grand hotels, Akelarre, Sagarlore, Iturregi: yes; Miramar and Rezabal: you need a hotel plan). Grand or Basque: the hotels and Miramar sell civic San Sebastián; the txakoli houses and Sagarlore sell the province. What the fee includes: hotels bundle catering; Miramar and Sagarlore mean an outside kitchen; a restaurant booking is a menu, not a room hire.

See San Sebastián for the overview. When you write to us, say the guest count and whether the dinner needs a sea view, a vineyard, or a kitchen with a name on the door.
